Richard Holcomb -Registered Psychologist

Richard Holcomb was born and raised in the State of New York, and came to NZ in 1981. Now a NZ citizen, he is married with three adult step-children. He has a special interest in highly sensitive people, relationships, depression, adoptions, stress, trauma, PTSD, grief, and Attachment and Anxiety Disorders. He is contracted to a large Employee Assistance Program providing counselling services and workplace stress management for individuals. He also provides workplace mentoring for employees, and psychological supervision for therapists.

Richard received a Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in Psychology in 1971 from the USA. He received a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with Distinction in 1976 from the USA, and he received a Master of Arts Degree (MA) in Psychology with Distinction in 1993 from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Richard began offering Counselling services in 1988. After a two year internship Richard was granted Registration as a Psychologist by the NZ Psychology Board in 1993 and became a member ot the NZ Psychological Society (MNZPsS) and an Associate member of the American Psychological Association.

Specialty trained in EMDR and DNMS (see Services Menu), he keeps in touch with colleagues around the world by email in order to stay abreast with developments in these two innovative therapy approaches. He is a member of three computer list services, giving him daily contact with over 2000 psychologists and therapists world wide, and providing him with continuous ongoing education and supervision. He was the facilitator of both the local DNMS and EMDR study and supervision groups, and is in regular supervision. He is a Certified DNMS Clinician and Facilitator and was recently granted approval to give basic trainings in NZ and Australia in DNMS.
