The Story of The Emperor Moth

Once there was a scientist who found some cocoons of a giant moth known as the Emperor Moth. When the time came for the moth to emerge from the crysalis, he noticed how the young moth struggled and struggled to try to get through the very small rigid hole. Because he was a kind man, he took a pair of scissors and gently cut the hole to make it easier for the moth to get through. The moth came out easily into the world, but to the scientist's dismay, instead of the magnificent creature he expected, the moth who emerged had a large mis-shapen body and very small wings, and of course was unable to fly.

The scientist was appalled, and vowed not to interfere with the next moth who was struggling to emerge from his cosy cocoon, but to stand back and observe. As he watched,he noticed that, as the moth struggled and struggled to push itself through the small hole, the fluid in its large body was being forced by the struggle into the wings and body. When the moth finally emerged, the wings were huge and the body long and skinny, which is as it should be with an Emperor Moth. The man watched facinated as the moth stretched and dried its magnificent wings, and then flew away.

Sometimes, we may ask ourselves, "Why are we are having this experience?, when things seem not to be going our way, and life seems very hard. It helps to remember the story of the Emperor Moth, who, without the struggle would not be the magnificent creature that it is. You have to wait to see the whole picture before you can judge. Sometimes we don't know what Life has in store for us, and what training we need to cope with what is coming!
